BACKGROUND
We are seeking a PhD student with strong interest in Bioinformatics to work under the supervision of Dr Chantal Guillemette, professor at the faculty of pharmacy and Canada research chair in pharmacogenomics and co-supervision of Dr Arnaud Droit, assistant professor at the faculty of medicine and computational biologist. The research project is part of the interdisciplinary research program in pharmacogenomics aim at elucidating processes at the origin of interindividual variability in drug response with a focus on cancer.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team and particularly in collaboration with experimental biologists and clinicians who will test hypotheses generated from the computational analyses back in the lab. The research project will involve analyses of data generated from next-generation sequencing, alternative splicing, proteomics/protein interaction and gene expression investigations. More precisely, the position involves data analyse, the development of R / Bioconductor packages for the analysis of high-throughput data, including computational algorithms development and implementation of creative solutions for large volume data management and processing.
The successful candidate is expected to 1) analyze data, 2) to develop novel tools relevant to the analysis of high throughput assays and 3) to implement them into software programs that are reusable, computationally efficient and effective.REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate must be highly self motivated, have excellent organization and communication skills, be willing and able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics/statistics/computer science/applied mathematics or related field is required.
- Knowledge of RNA-Seq, R and C/C++, Newbler, Samtools is a must.
- Previous experience with RNA-Seq, programming, high-throughput data analysis and/or biological sciences and with R scripting and C/C++, Newbler, Samtools is an advantage
