Opportunity: Postdoctoral research fellowship in BIOINFORMATICS related to basic diabetes research @ ULB -- Brussels, Belgium
Submitted by Olatz; posted on Friday, November 09, 2012

    BACKGROUND

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in bioinformatics at the Laboratory of Experimental Medicine at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium for two projects recently funded by the JDRF international aiming at Mining splice variants to identify novel beta cell autoantigens and biomarkers. We study novel autoantigens and biomarkers for beta cell imaging and the role for alternative splicing in pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction and death in diabetes mellitus. An overview of our research lines is outlined in Eizirik DL et al. Nature Rev Endocrinol. 5, 219--226 (2009); Gurzov EN and Eizirik, Trends Cell Biol 21:424-31, 2011; Bouckenooghe T et al. Curr Pharm Des, 16:1609-1618, 2010; Eizirik DL et al. PLoS Genet 8: e1002552, 2012. Work is developed in collaboration with Prof. Gianluca Bontempi, at the Machine Learning Group, ULB, Belgium.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform bioinformatic analysis of RNAseq data, identify splice variants and mine these variants by comparison against several other tissues to identify beta-cell specific variants under basal and inflamed conditions.

    REQUIREMENTS

A solid background in bioinformatics (specially analysis of RNAseq data and identification of splice variants) is an absolute requirement. This 2-4-year postdoctoral position starts in February 2013 (starting date can be negotiated) and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

    TERMS

This 2-3-year postdoctoral position starts in January/February 2013 (starting date can be negotiated) and the position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

    HOW TO APPLY

Please email a letter of interest, curriculum vitae (including publication list), and the name of 2-3 reference persons to:
