    Opportunity: Principal Scientist -- BIOINFORMATICS (Ph.D.) @ Algenol Biofuels -- Fort Myers, FL (US)

    BACKGROUND

    For our research facility in Fort Myers, Florida, we are seeking to fill a position at the rank of Principal Scientist - Bioinformatics in our Bioinformatics Department.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Guide entire life-cycle of internal development of biological data management and other informatics system.
    • Craft and implement in-house bioinformatics pipelines to automate the analysis of high throughput sequencing dataset.
    • Manage collaborations with cross-functional teams on the application of integrated "multi-omics" techniques to organism engineering.
    • Establish bioinformatics best practices through technical assessment of emerging cutting-edge technologies, and identification of new capabilities (including hardware/software).
    • Use and adapt state-of-the-art bioinformatics and biostatistics tools to perform systems biology research, preferably next-gen sequencing, gene expression profiling (e.g., microarray and RNA-Seq), proteomics, pathway reconstruction, and high throughput data acquisition and integration.
    • Present complex results in an easy to digest manner to bench biologists without a computational or statistical background to aid and drive decision making.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related discipline. Candidates with several years of biotech industry or post-doc research experience are preferred.
    • Minimum of five years of relevant experience. Experience in biotechnology industry is highly desirable.
    Position requires solid understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and statistical analysis principles.
    • Previous working experience related to plant/algae photosynthesis is preferred.
    • Proven hands-on experience in processing and analyzing NGS data or in developing sequence analysis pipelines.
    • Solid programming skills (R, Perl, Shell scripting, Java, Python and C/C++) and experience with relational databases (Oracle/MySQL) and web-related technologies/frameworks such as Apache, XML, HTML, PHP, and .Net.
    • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
    • Ability to sustain highly productive projects in a high-paced environment.
    • Demonstrated high quality of technical and intellectual contributions. Ability to interact with all levels of staff and manage others is required.
    • Excellent organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
