Opportunity: PostDoc position in BIOINFORMATICS--Rurh Univ. Bochum Germany
Submitted by Dr. Rudolf Marcel Fuechslin; posted on Thursday, April 08, 2004 (1 comment)

    DESCRIPTION

The Ruhr University Bochum research group 'Biomolecular Information
Processing' (BioMIP) invites applications for scientists to participate in
a project in the BMBF Systems Biology Program, 1.1.2004-31.12.2006:

    Postdoc BATIIa
    Bioinformatics

    Doct BATIIa/2
    Modelling

The project is entitled Systemology: A high throughput systems approach
for imaging, quantitative analysis and modeling of hepatocyte endocytosis,
receptor traffic and signal transduction. The postdoc position is for a
bioinformatician to integrate biomolecular data from genomics, proteomics
and metabolomics programs with the novel spatially resolved modelling
platform and imaging databases being generated in the project. The
doctoral position is in the area of spatial modelling for a theoretician
in the area of biophysics or chemical kinetics. The project offers the
applicant the possibility to collaborate with leading groups around
Germany in this cooperative initiative and to interact directly with
cutting edge experimental programs, creating the first high throughput
imaging databases for the systems biology of the liver. The research will
be carried out in connection with Professor McCaskill's group in
Biomolecular Information Processing, which is currently situated at
Schloss Birlinghoven, the Fraunhofer Campus in Sankt Augustin, near
Bonn. This lab also has an experimental facility and is coordinating a
European Project in Programmable Artificial Cell Evolution. It is
affiliated with the Chair of Bioorganic Chemistry (Prof. Kiedrowski) at
    the Ruhr University.

    REQUIREMENTS

For the postdoc, we expect a PhD in bioinformatics or systems biology with
relevant competencies in biomolecular datamining and modelling, or a
computer scientist with equivalent work experience in these areas. A high
level of scientific competence, and the ability to make an independent
contribution in a multi-disciplinary team project are essential. The
doctoral student will have completed a degree (Diplom) in physics or
chemistry and be familiar with the simulation of complex soft matter
    systems.

The Ruhr University intends to increase the number of women in research
and teaching; women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. The Ruhr
University is an equal opportunity employer and will give preference to
disabled candidates having the same qualifications as their competitors.

Salary, on the German BAT scale, includes additional benefits as paid in
the German public service (such as health insurance, superannuation).
