HUDSON, Massachusetts--January 2003--The Bioinformatics Organization (Bioinformatics.Org) announces that more than 5,000 people have joined as individual members. On December 28, 2002, the 5,000th member registered with Bioinformatics.Org, now one of the largest organizations in the scientific field of bioinformatics.
Members of the Organization come from all over the world, with the largest concentrations in the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, India, France and Japan. Member affiliations are mostly academic, government and industrial. Individual membership at Bioinformatics.Org is free and never expires.
About Bioinformatics.Org:
By providing free and open resources for research, development and education, the Bioinformatics Organization promotes freedom and openness in the field of bioinformatics. The Organization was established in 1998 and hopes to lower the barrier to entering and participating in the field, as access to cutting-edge resources can be prohibitively expensive for those working individually, in small groups, at poorly-funded institutions or in developing nations. There are more than 5,000 members and 90 hosted projects registered at Bioinformatics.Org, the Organization's website.
