BACKGROUND:
The University of Cape Town is a Node of the National Bioinformatics Network, which was created in South Africa to develop capacity in bioinformatics in the country. The UCT Node includes the following components: infrastructure, research, education and training, and services. The research focus is broad, but connected by ties to molecular evolution and microarray data analysis. UCT is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pathogen Bioinformatics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Postdoctoral researcher will work on a microbial genomics project to identify potential virulence genes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. He/she will be responsible for driving the project and co-supervising a Masters student.
REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate will have experience in Bioinformatics, with a research interest in infectious diseases. He/she will have a Ph.D or equivalent degree in a relevant area (Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Biostatistics or Computational Biology).

Cape Town, South Africa
COMPENSATION:
The position is funded by the National Bioinformatics Network and is within the upper scale of postdoctoral bursaries in the country.
