Software: Release of PrimerPy 0.97a, a free/open source QPCR primer design program.
Submitted by Suzhao Li; posted on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 (2 comments)
We are pleased to announce the availability of PrimerPy version 0.97a. PrimerPy is a free, open source primer design program optimized for Sybr Green QPCR. PrimerPy uses Primer3 as a backend engine. We incorporate our own bench experience into this program. New features include a separate module for checking hairpin, primer-dimer and more furnished result report.

The Windows installer can be downloaded from: http://oligobench.googlecode.com/files/primerpy-0.97a-win-setup.exe. A wiki page is at: http://code.google.com/p/oligobench/wiki/PrimerPy. NIX and Mac users can find installation methods on project site.

As a constantly evolving open source project, our release is not intended to be fully baked, bullet-proof software, though it should be stable and usable, and the primer design quality should take on any commercial software. We invite feedback from users. Users are a vital part of open source development, whose reports and suggestions drive the improvement of the software.
