BACKGROUND
The Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) is developing software encapsulating new statistical methods developed within the CHGR. This software will be experimental in nature and will require rigorous attention to detail and the ability to refactor computationally intensive routines.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop complex software encapsulating new statistical methods for human genetics research.
- Develop GUI for batch and pipeline interaction with software packages.
- Developing application interfaces.
- Interacting with large relational databases.
- Communicating data requirements to the development team and other stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Biology or equivalent, and a minimum of 36 months relevant experience. Experience may be substituted for education: basic qualification requirement on a 2:1 basis (2 years of experience for each year of education required, but not attained)PREFERENCES
- 36 months as a C/C++ Application Developer.
- Full project life-cycle experience (from requirements gathering to testing).
- An understanding of GUI design.
- Experience working in a UNIX/Linux environment.
- An understanding/experience of working within an academic scientific environment.
- Able to work independently and interact well within a team environment.
- Experience dealing with extremely large datasets.
- Informatics experience in the medical or other life sciences industries.
- Experience working with algorithm development and statistical packages.
- Familiarity with open source GUI toolkits such as GTK and Qt, as well as Kernel development.
- Experience with object oriented web application development languages such as Ruby on Rails and PHP.
TERMS
This is a full-time positions (40 hours per week). Shift hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm; Monday thru Friday. Salary is dependent upon years of education and experience. Background screens will be performed and must be approved prior to employment. Please be prepared to provide required information.
