It is with great sadness that we report the loss of our colleague in the field, Warren DeLano, who was well-known for the creation of the open-source PyMOL molecular graphics system. Warren was just 37 years old.
His family has set up a website where people can share memories of Warren: http://web.me.com/brendandelano/Warren_Lyford_DeLano/In_Memorium.html. There is information there as well on a memorial fund that has been created in his honor for the support of future open-source software development in science.
All of us at Bioinformatics.Org offer our deepest condolences to his family at this time.

I voted today for the Franklin Award nominating Warren DeLano (posthumously). He was a 2009 nominee but did not receive the award. One stipulation of the award is that "6. The initial consideration for the Award will then be contacted. He or she must be willing and able to accept the Award in person at the time of the ceremony." However could an exception be made under these special circumstances? I post this comment to initiate a discussion as well as to solicit a second nomination as required by guideline #2.
Incidentally, the updated URL for the memorial site is:
http://warrendelano.blogspot.com
http://www.wldmemorialfund.org
and an elegant obituary was published here:
