    BACKGROUND

    The Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is a center of scientific excellence in research and therapy of autoimmune diseases, such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis and arthritis, and promotes clinical and interdisciplinary research, particularly in cancer, neuroscience, and heart disease. BRI is a non-profit organization celebrating its 54th year as Washington State's oldest medical research institute with over 230 employees and a $30 million budget for 2011. BRI offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Data Curator will be a liaison between the Bioinformatics Core and Immune Tolerance Network (ITN) researchers. Main responsibilities include curation of ITN and/or related data sets in public domain, application of data mining algorithms for biomarker identifications and biological interpretation of data mining results for knowledge discovery. This will require excellent skills in time management, project prioritization and multi-tasking. S/he must also be able to work, both independently and collaboratively with all levels of institute researchers, in a dynamic research environment.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in immunology, bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or related discipline; with a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience for Ph.D. and 6 years for M.S.; and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in immunology research is essential.

    PREFERENCES

    • Knowledge of genomics, high-throughput sequencing, statistical analysis and data visualization is highly desirable.
    • Familiarity with bioinformatics software, such as R/Bioconductor, SAS/JMP Genomics and Ingenuity IPA is a plus.
