BACKGROUND
Calibrant Biosystems, a Rockville, MD based biotech company developing exciting analytical platforms for proteomics research, currently has an opening for a bioinformatics post-doc. This person will work with existing bioinformatics support staff to develop software applications to analyze and store large mass spectrometry data sets. This position will support work with NIH and other outside collaborators.

REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate should have some laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and/or knowledge of molecular biology theory and practices. Experience with mass spectrometry would be an advantage. The successful candidate will have experience with bioinformatics applications such as those contained in the EMBOSS package; experience with MASCOT or Sequest would be beneficial. The candidate should also have a good knowledge of public database repositories (NCBI, SwissProt, EBI). The ideal candidate will need to have a good working knowledge of relational databases (MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, Sybase or SQL Server) and experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Perl, C, C++ or Java. Experience developing database GUIs would also be a benefit but is not required. Knowledge of PHP, Javascript, LINUX/UNIX, Windows COM and VBScript are a plus. Experience with algorithm development and statistics would also be considered a plus.
