You may have seen this on other news sites, but we'll post it here anyway.

Bioinformatics.Org announces the ``Co-Lab Product Co-Location Program.'' With the participation of the manfacturers and vendors of computer hardware and software, the Co-Lab Program will help develop The Open Lab, the project hosting services at Bioinformatics.Org. These services include a collection of free and open resources for all bioinformatic scientists, both prospective and practicing, with the intention of lowering the barrier to entering and participating in a field that requires computer products.

As the first member of the Co-Lab Program, Apple Computer, Inc. provided a dual-processor Power Mac G4 Server running OS X. This and all resources of The Open Lab will be available to any member of Bioinformatics.Org, free of charge, for projects involving the development of bioinformatics software and the analysis of biological data.

Bioinformatics.Org has received interest from several companies (yet to be announced) and intends to create a showroom of commercial bioinformatic products that will benefit both industry (by providing product exposure) as well as the community (by providing access to these products).

For more information, please contact J.W. Bizzaro, Bioinformatics.Org President (jeff[at]bioinformatics.org).

We are in the process of developing a form that members can use to request an account on the Mac and on future systems in The Open Lab. Expect to see some announcements about this shortly.
