As part of the expansion of the department, the Center’s Department of Biomedical Informatics invites applications for two tenure-earning faculty appointments at the level of Assistant/Associate Member. The selected candidates will have extensive experience in bioinformatics and/or systems biology as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and through successful collaborative or independent research grants. Expertise in the analysis of high-dimensional data using machine learning/data mining techniques for –omics-based data, including next-generation sequencing data, is preferred. Faculty members in the Department of Biomedical Informatics primarily perform collaborative translational research with basic, clinical and population research scientists as well as pursue independent research opportunities.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and at least two years post-doctoral experience, or comparable training and experience. The prospective candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Member level or higher if warranted, and Faculty of the Moffitt Cancer Center are eligible for academic appointments at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The goal of the Department of Biomedical Informatics is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer through the development of computational tools and methodologies that provide further insight into the biochemical pathways and genetic networks involved in cancer. The department has a robust independent and collaborative research program that is leveraging the resources of Total Cancer Care™, a large multi-institutional prospective study providing functional genomics/proteomics and clinical data from tens of thousands of participants.
