    The current version of the getbirch disc installer does work, but there are a number of things that should be changed about it to make it more consistent with recent changes to the UI that were exclusive to the network installer.

    The network installer detects the fetching a file from the download site. Currently, the disc installer does this to. This forces the user to need a network connection for no reason, so it should be changed to get this information from the disc. This will allow is to easily determine what version of the installer this is.

    Also, the untar method used by the disc installer is deprecated, in should use the same one as the rest of the system.

    These should be simple changes to make, but the main focus will be to not cause regression in the network installer.

    I have added a note to the discinstall.html file to this effect. I suspect that the demand for a disc install will be low anyway, so it's not an immediate priority, Dale. You can fix it when you get back to Winnipeg. 04/21/11 13:14 B_Fristensky
