[ Ticket #1183 ] Edit --> copy should use FASTA format
    Date:
    05/16/13 18:18
    Submitted by:
    B_Fristensky
    Assigned to:
    Alvare
    Category:
    bioLegato
    Priority:
    3
    Ticket group:
    Bug
    Resolution:
    Resolved
    Summary:
Edit --> copy should use FASTA format
    Original submission:
BioLegato supports copy and paste to and from the system clipboard. However, Edit--> Copy converts sequences into pseudo-GenBank format, which virtually no web programs will accept. Copy should convert into FASTA format, so that sequences can be pasted into web forms.

Maybe the best solution is to create an Open in Text Editor
Function (also open in Spreadsheet for table canvas)
that has a menu for choosing the format. This makes sense anyway, because you can't predict what format a web form might want. We run the thing through readseq and then open i a text editor.

Actually, it's not that simple. Some users may want to Copy and Paste between BioLegato windows. This is in effect the same as Copy Out and Paste in, except it bypasses the BioLegato clipboard.

Others may want to copy and paste to a web form. The former needs GenBank format to preserve feature annotation, the latter needs fasta format, because most web forms will understand fasta format.
