Opportunity: Network Administrator (PT or FT position) @ LaserGen -- Houston, TX (US)

OVERVIEW:
Responsible for system/network administration and support of company computers and network. Platforms include Windows 7, Windows 2008 Server, Linux, Cisco IOS, ShoreTel, and MacOS. Perform hardware specifications, purchasing recommendation, installation and configuration. Responsible for maintenance of the corporate website (WordPress) and internal sites (IIS/Apache). Will maintain a reliable, secure network, maintaining remote access, vpn, and monitoring. Must be able to perform routine tasks such software patches/updates, Cisco network changes, Cisco firewall/NAT changes, and kernel upgrades. Must be knowledgeable about network monitoring particularly syslog/SNMP and proactive remediation of potential problems. Responsible for backups/restoration of NAS/SAN, source code repository, databases and servers. Occasional on-call responsibilities required.

Ideal candidate will have experience with the following: bioinformatics, database design, laboratory automation, computational biology, data analysis, and reporting. Must be fluent in some of: Python, PHP 5, C++, MySQL, Matlab, git.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Organize and manage projects effectively and provide reports upon completion.
2. Maintain user accounts, reset passwords, maintain AD domain and attendant services (DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, LDAP, et al.)
3. Troubleshoot network and performance problems
4. Maintain support contracts, software licenses, compliance and warranties on network hardware, servers, workstations and software.
5. Write and maintain IT SOP'S, network diagrams and other appropriate documentation.
6. Design, code, and test new software and infrastructure to support LG applications.
7. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:
* BS Computer Science or BS in relevant field with equivalent demonstrable computer experience minimum of 3-5 years' experience. Excellent organizational, training and record-keeping skills
* Strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities
* Familiar with MS Office suite
* Dynamic, hardworking and results oriented
* Independent, self-motivated /self-directed but also able to operate as part of a team
* Must be accessible by phone or email outside normal business hours
* Work hour availability must be flexible, not conforming to a standard 40 hour work week
