Submitted by Siddharth Srinivasan; posted on Wednesday, April 23, 2014

    BACKGROUND

Zymeworks Inc. is a Canadian computational biotechnology company that is developing predictive technology for optimizing protein therapeutics. Zymeworks combines high performance computing, visualization and data exploration tools with leading edge molecular simulation and bioinformatics algorithms. We have developed a complete suite of molecular modelling applications geared towards engineering better drugs for cancer and autoimmune diseases. Zymeworks is hiring a research associate to help us develop the next generation of protein design tools.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist senior scientists with the development of protein design algorithms
    • Develop and document software that implements protein design methods
    • Collaborate with senior scientists to validate protein design tools
    • Work with protein engineers to effectively apply protein design and analysis software

    REQUIREMENTS

    1. Algorithm development and implementation experience in any of the following areas:
        * Molecular modelling. Areas of interest include but are not limited to
            a. Molecular dynamics/Monte Carlo simulations
            b. Force field development
            c. Protein structure optimization
        * Protein bioinformatics, including but not limited to
            a. Prediction of protein properties from sequence data
            b. Extraction of residue co-evolution data from sequence data
            c. Binding target prediction/identification from sequence data
            d. Experience with antibodies is an asset
        * Data analysis methods, including but not limited to
            a. Statistical inference methods.
            b. Analysis of in vivo data (e.g. Survival analysis, Tumour growth modelling)

    2. A Masters degree in Physics, Chemistry, CS, Bioinformatics or a related field is required. Bachelor's degree holders with at least 3 years of relevant experience will also be considered.

    3. Proficient in Python, or other programming languages (C/C++, Fortran, Java). Experience with other scripting languages is an asset.
