Opportunity: Senior Software Engineer / Data Scientist @ Pacific Biosciences -- Menlo Park, CA (US)
Submitted by Pacific Biosciences; posted on Thursday, October 01, 2015

    BACKGROUND

PacBio's R&D team performs hundreds of experiments a month, comparing and contrasting different chemistry and software configurations in order to optimize our DNA sequencing platform. To help the scientists easily identify the differences between experimental conditions, we've built a web portal that can provide quick summary statistics and plots of a large swath of features of interest.

We need help to build out the analysis backend component of this tool, so we are looking for a strong R programmer with general software engineering experience and strong statistical acumen.

PacBio is a very exciting place for people with strong scientific curiosity!

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Maintaining, and innovating on, our in-house R APIs to enable scientists to easily analyze experiments
    • Writing R APIs to wrap existing C++ APIs
    • Helping to design new experiments and analyze results

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Substantial previous experience with R is a must – including developing R APIs and writing packages, and interfacing with native code
    • Additional software engineering experience in a language like Java, C, C++ or Python is a must; we are looking for experience with designing APIs and systems
    • Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field (physics, statistics, engineering, quantitative biology, computer science, etc.) is preferred.
    • Candidate must have in-depth experience in designing and analyzing experimental data in a rigorous way.

    PREFERENCES

    • Preference shown to candidates with previous bioinformatics experience.

    LOCALE
