Submitted by edwin wang; posted on Sunday, March 18, 2007
JOB TITLE
A postdoctoral fellow or research associate in bioinformatics and network biology
ABOUT US: National Research Council Canada, Biotechnology Research Institute
REQUIREMENTS
1. Strong programming skills in one or more of the following programming languages: Perl, Java, C/C++.
2. A solid background in probability theory, statistics or biostatistics, statistical programming skills, stochastic modeling and Monte Carlo simulations, statistical pattern recognition.
3. Knowledge of basic biology such as molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or genomics. Have published at least one bioinformatics and systems biology related paper as first author.
It would be an asset if the candidate has knowledge of and experience with: graph and network theory, microarray and proteomics data analysis, biological sequence analysis, gene ontology, biological networks, numerical analysis, simulation, control, and information theory, R programming, relational model and object-oriented model of databases.
DESCRIPTION
National Research Council, Biotechnology Research Institute, Montreal, Canada is seeking a postdoctoral fellow or research associate to conduct research in bioinformatics and network biology. The candidate is expected to involving in the cancer genomics project, conducting data mining/analysis and developing methods in computational and systems/network biology. The project is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of scientists with background ranging from omics, structural biology and modeling/drug design, imaging engineering, statistics, and computer science to bioinformatics. It is expected that the candidate will interact with these scientists, especially cancer biologists.
The objectives of the study are to understand biological systems (such as signaling, gene regulation, protein interaction networks and their dynamics in cancer progression) and develop practical applications (such as identifying human cancer markers) through mathematical and statistical analysis, numerical simulation and integrating large amount of internally and externally experimental datasets including genomic, functional genomic, microarray, and proteomic data. The candidate is expected to be able to develop new algorithms to make sense of these data.
SALARY RANGE: $45,000 - $60,000/year.
