Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Manager--Greensboro, Winston Salem, NC (US)

This is a direct hire position with a growing biotech firm in the Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina (Greensboro, Winston Salem)!
The primary purpose of the Manager of Informatics is to direct the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the preclinical and clinical informatics functions and overall research computing capability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops both short-and long-term IS strategies to help the organization meet its business objectives by developing an informatics database strategy, including the incorporation of large databases from collaborations, strategic alliances, and research and development efforts.
- Executes and manage the functions of laboratory automation and information management systems, computational biology, database design, database mining, data analysis, software development, laboratory automation, and information management systems, in order to meet necessary business requirements on a corporate-wide basis.
- Manages and directs the activities of the Informatics group.
- Performs database programming and writes scientific application code for various software development needs.
- Performs installations, configures, monitors, and maintains/upgrades the Oracle database, user security; associated Web Servers and applications; user PC’s software installations, associated equipment, such as bar code reader/scanner, client PC’s, etc.
- Utilizes related database and software tools/programs, as well as other web-based tools for the development, enhancement, and application for compound chemistry, chemical inventory, combinatorial chemistry, and high throughput screening, etc.
- Develops standards, guidelines, controls, and documentation for of the Data Management Administration function for all application databases.
REPORTS TO: Director of Information Systems
REQUIREMENTS
Job duties require a Bachelors/Masters Degree in Chemistry/BioChemistry or similar discipline.
With the above education, it would require approximately 7-10 years’ previous programming experience with MDL’s Tools, or equivalent. At least 5 of these years must be in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment. Previous experience directing lower-level personnel is required. In addition, requirements include a working knowledge of C# .net, Visual Basic 6, .NET, SQL, PL-SQL, Java, Oracle, stored procedures, and database triggers and functions. Working knowledge of sample management, chemical inventory and software such as Pipeline Pilot, Spotfire, and Open Labs strongly preferred.
