Opportunity: Senior Storage Architect/Administrator with NIH/NHGRI @ Digicon Corporation--Bethesda, MD (US)

BACKGROUND
Digicon Corporation, established in 1985, is a full-service Information Technology Integrator and Solutions Provider to both government and commercial customers. Digicon employs approximately 300 employees throughout the Washington metropolitan area, as well as several other major cities across the nation.
We are currently in search for a Senior Storage Architect/Administrator to work at the National Institutes of Health/National Human Genome Research Institute (NIH/NHGRI) in Bethesda, MD. This is a full-time employee position with Digicon Corporation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This Sr. Mass Storage Architect's role will be integration and support for NIH/NHGRI's mass storage and backup infrastructure, with a special focus on the multi-petabyte NextGen Sequencing Project. The storage infrastructure consists of NetApp, Sun, Coraid, and other storage technologies, and houses both scientific and administrative data for the Institute.
In addition to the integration and day-to-day administration of the existing mass storage infrastructure, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the evaluation, testing, configuration and deployment of new mass storage hardware and software.
The successful candidate will be required to identify and develop diagnostics and monitoring tools to help manage and assume the integrity of the storage systems. The storage resource is also responsible for helping to identify and streamline mass storage data flow, and provide tools to organize and formalize workflow. He/she will troubleshoot and diagnose system software and hardware faults and work with developers and hardware experts to resolve them. The candidate will develop expertise in the specific operational details of the mass storage system to tune them for optimal use. Will be the liaison with researchers and investigators to determine their immediate and future needs, and will communicate Mass Storage issues and plans to employees and/or upper level management, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
- Masters Degree in Computer Science, Physical Science, or equivalent experience
- Written and excellent oral communication and presentation skills
- In-depth Linux OS and utilities experience is required
- Experience with and/or aptitude to learn middleware
- Participation in a 24X7 pager rotation, a must
- In-depth experience in one of the following languages: Perl/Python, Java or shell
- Experience specifying and evaluating hardware and software systems
- Experience with Apache, PostgreSQL
- Experience with system monitoring techniques and tools supporting unattended operations
- Experience in wide area networks or grid data movement
PREFERENCES
- Experience in work-flow tools and techniques, plone, twiki
- Experience with large scale tape libraries is desired. Experience with raid or tape peripherals
- Experience with mass storage deployments in a UNIX and PC server environment and experience with computer security related techniques
TERMS
