RESPONSIBILITIES

JCVI is looking for a Systems Engineer specializing in cloud computing to establish and drive the creation of test-bed and production systems based on current and future needs of scientific team. The Systems Engineer will be deploying large-scale data analysis pipelines on a cloud / distributed computing environment. This position presents the opportunity to join an interdisciplinary scientific team leading the next generation of bioinformatics computing.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline required. Master's degree a plus.
Two to Four (2-4) years of systems engineering and systems administration experience preferred.
Specific technical skills and experience to include some combination of the following:
Software Development: Python, Perl, Unix shell scripting, Java, C/C++
Virtualization and Cloud Systems: Xen, KVM, OpenStack, Eucalyptus, VirtualBox, Vmware
Hadoop/HDFS/MapReduce: cluster development, tuning, user support
Amazon IaaS cloud computing platform: EC2, S3, SQS, EBS, Elastic MapReduce
Systems Administartion: Linux installation, maintenance, upgrade, backup, NFS, TCP/IP networking
Operating Systems: Linux (Redhat Enterprise, CentOS, Ubuntu)
Sun Grid Engine, parallel computing such as MPI will be considered a plus.
Ability to create and configure Virtual Machines (VMs) with customized software stack according to the needs of the team and support developers.
Must be able to work as an effective team member
Excellent communication skills (oral, presentation, and written) required. Willingness to perform technical presentations to both IT and science departments, contribute to creating technical documentation (including wikis and screencasts) and internal/external user support.
