Opportunity: Director of BIOINFORMATICS @ University of Chicago--Chicago, IL (US)

BACKGROUND
The Center for Research Informatics (CRI) is a new and rapidly growing organization within the Biological Sciences Division of the University of Chicago whose mission is to provide the informatics resources and services that enables research of the highest scientific merit. A wide spectrum of investigators committed to advancing the state of the art of clinical informatics, translational informatics, and bioinformatics are served by the CRI, and therefore, the CRI is a nucleus for a broad range of informatics and IT activities, from Cloud Computing to data warehousing to genomic analysis tools and services. The CRI is looking for a Director of Bioinformatics to shape the vision and goals of the bioinformatics component of the CRI and to lead a team of highly trained professionals to attain those goals. This is a new position and the successful candidate will have significant financial support to rapidly establish their team and program.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director will provide leadership and direction for the strategic planning, evaluation, design, and implementation of the bioinformatics services provided by CRI, particularly services supporting high through put genomic technologies. The Director of Bioinformatics will be expected to leverage state-of-the-art technologies to deliver innovative bioinformatics solutions across a broad user base. A key function will be to assemble, manage and lead an effective bioinformatics support team.
REQUIREMENTS
- Doctoral degree in Bioinformatics, the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of experience in the field of bioinformatics
- Expertise in next generation sequencing data analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Relevant research and teaching experience
- Supervisory, leadership, and service role experience
