RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of this position are the following:
- Establish animal models of diabetic kidney disease (DKD), and support in vivo modeling of candidate therapeutics in such models.
- Supervise scientists involved in in vivo modeling for diabetic kidney disease.
- Identify and evaluate new targets in DKD, participate in target identification and validation activities pertaining to DKD, participate in drug discovery working groups, and take on leadership of one or more programs in DKD as appropriate.
- Present scientific data to both internal and external audiences.
- Network with external scientists in academia to apply state-of-the-art scientific methods and knowledge to drug discovery.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to evaluate external opportunities to in-license drugs.
- Mentor other scientists to promote scientific excellence and promote their career development.
REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. preferred with 8+ years experience beyond post-doctoral training required; and pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge and scientific experience related to normal renal physiology, diabetes, and the pathophysiology of diabetic kidney disease (DKD)
- Knowledge and experience related to the use of relevant in vivo animal models to study DKD
- Established expertise related to DKD as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications
- Knowledge and experience related to the drug discovery process
- Experience working in multidisciplinary drug discovery teams
- Track record of effective leadership, both as a direct line manager and/or leader of matrix teams
- Demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication
- Demonstrated commitment to scientific excellence and scientific rigor
