    BACKGROUND

    The mission of Moffitt Cancer Center is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Moffitt's vision is "to be the leader in scientific discovery and translation into compassionate care, cures, and prevention of cancer for our community and the world." As part of an elite group of National Cancer Institute (NCI) Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Moffitt focuses on the development of early stage translational research aimed at the rapid translation of scientific discoveries to benefit patient care.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We have an opportunity for a Sr. Data Quality & Standards Analyst in Biomedical Informatics to manage source system data content and quality and standardize data definitions. The primary responsibility of the Data Quality & Standards Analyst Sr. is to act as champion for high quality data by gathering and maintaining executive support and working with business owners of enterprise source systems across institutional and functional areas to identify and resolve data quality concerns so as to leverage data for research and clinical purposes. The Data Quality & Standards Analyst Sr. utilizes multiple processes to ensure good quality data capture in order to create useful information to support Moffitt Cancer Center research and clinical efforts. Qualified candidates must have the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with faculty, researchers, cross functional teams, operational management and staff and IT.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • To be considered, you should be proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, Oracle, Business Objects, SQL, C, PERL, HTML, JAVA, XML.
    • The ability to learn new software systems and business intelligence tools, and a proficiency in working with multiple databases and varied IT systems is also required.
    • You must be able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with team members, have excellent analytical skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and diplomatic and negotiation skills, as well as be able to communicate and work productively with all levels of faculty and staff.

    PREFERENCES

    • A Master's Degree in Information Sciences or a related field with a strong background in biology, medical or a related field is preferred. We will consider candidates with a bachelor's degree with 5 to 10 years, or master's degree with 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in business analysis, organizational/process management, metadata management, information technology, data quality, or a related field.
    • Experience must include understanding and developing business processes, working with varied computer systems (including mainframe and desktop applications), and working with multiple complex databases.
    • Practical experience in project management and/or systems development and ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects are essential.
    • Experience in QA/QC procedures and implementation preferred.

As part of the expansion of the department, the Center’s Department of Biomedical Informatics invites applications for two tenure-earning faculty appointments at the level of Assistant/Associate Member. The selected candidates will have extensive experience in bioinformatics and/or systems biology as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and through successful collaborative or independent research grants. Expertise in the analysis of high-dimensional data using machine learning/data mining techniques for –omics-based data, including next-generation sequencing data, is preferred. Faculty members in the Department of Biomedical Informatics primarily perform collaborative translational research with basic, clinical and population research scientists as well as pursue independent research opportunities. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and at least two years post-doctoral experience, or comparable training and experience. The prospective candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Member level or higher if warranted, and Faculty of the Moffitt Cancer Center are eligible for academic appointments at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The goal of the Department of Biomedical Informatics is to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer through the development of computational tools and methodologies that provide further insight into the biochemical pathways and genetic networks involved in cancer. The department has a robust independent and collaborative research program that is leveraging the resources of Total Cancer Care™, a large multi-institutional prospective study providing functional genomics/proteomics and clinical data from tens of thousands of participants.
