Bioinformaticist/Database Developer
Do you want to lead the development of a truly novel genome database, involving over 60 researchers in 11 countries?
The Brinkman Laboratory at Simon Fraser University (Greater Vancouver, B.C., Canada; http://www.pathogenomics.bc.ca/brinkman/) has an opening for a full-time Bioinformaticist/Database Developer, to expand the capabilities of the Pseudomonas Genome Database (http://www.pseudomonas.com). This researcher would be responsible for leading efforts to expand database flexibility in new ways, coordinate the input of a worldwide community of researchers, and add additional knowledge data to the database. In addition, some software development for the bPSORT project (improving computational prediction of subcellular localization of bacterial proteins), may be undertaken. Note that we are committed to furthering open source development.
Experience with database and web-interface development is required and excellent knowledge of both Linux and Windows environments is necessary. Minimum requirements: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in computer science and at least second-year undergraduate molecular biology knowledge (or equivalent), plus evidence of experience working in a bioinformatics setting. Applicants with an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a molecular biology, microbiology or related field, who have extensive computational experience and bioinformatics experience, will also be considered. Salary is competitive (up to $80,000, commensurate with experience). Experience with Javascript, VBScript, and ASP is desirable and familiarity with Perl, PHP, MySQL, or PostgreSQL would be a definite asset.
This position is initially for two years (start date May to Sept. 2002), with the possibility of further renewal. Contact Dr. Fiona Brinkman at (604) 291-5646 for more information and forward a copy of your C.V./resume, start date(s) you'd prefer, unofficial copy of transcripts (to evaluate courses taken) and contact information for three references, to:

Please quote "position BDD2002-6" in the subject line of your email. We thank all applicants and regret that only those selected for an interview may be contacted further.
