    The Department of Bioinformatics in Karunya University in India was started in the year 2005. The objective is to provide excellent teaching, learning including practical training, research facilities and consultancy services in the frontier areas of Bioinformatics.

    The course is designed to provide advanced research and industrial exposure to the students and it covers frontier areas like biopharmaceutics, computational biology, enzyme engineering, database management systems, development of algorithms, machine learning approaches, data mining and warehousing, genomics & proteomics, molecular modeling & drug design, molecular phylogeny, neural networks, computer simulations, systems biology, artificial intelligence and nanobiotechnology.

    PROGRAMS OFFERED

    The Department of Bioinformatics offers the following 4 years undergraduate B.Tech. Programmes and 2 years postgraduate M.Tech. Programmes:

The Department of Bioinformatics at Alagappa University has been formed in the year 2008 to facilitate collaborative research in the interdisciplinary area of Structural Bioinformatics and computational Genomics and to create an intellectual environment for interdisciplinary education and training. Department is offering M.Sc degree in Bioinformatics and also Ph. D in Bioinformatics. The Department is comprised of the faculty with research interests in Structural Bioinformatics, Molecular modeling and Computer Aided Drug Designing, Pharmacoinformatics, Chemoinformatics, and Genomics and Proteomics. Some of the facilities are- 40 High configuration computers, 10 KVA UPS, Uninterrupted electrical supply, 10 MBS internet facility. operating system available: Operating system: Both Linux, Windows Languages: Perl, C++, SQL, html, UNIX, VB Some of Bioinformatics sofrtware/Tools: Chemdraw VMD Rasmol Clustalx 1.8 Phylip CAChe GCK gene construct Oligo ExPasy Swiss model Commercial Software’s Full Schrödinger package for molecular Modeling and Drug Design etc (under process) Other Equipments: * Other open source software’s Biotechnology instruments- o Real time PCR machine, o Gel Documentation system, o Laminar Air flow chambers o Cooling incubators, -20° Deep freezer, Refrigerators other basic molecular Biology Laboratory Equipments Journals and Books * Adequate Books, Journals, Digital Class rooms.
