Opportunity: Postdoctoral Scientist @ University of Wisconsin -- Madison, WI (US)
Submitted by Patricia Pointer; posted on Friday, June 07, 2013
BACKGROUND
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in Dr. Sushmita Roy's research group on systems and network biology at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID), University of Wisconsin, Madison. The WID, established in 2010, is a new research institute with state of the art research and computing infrastructure co-located with the Morgridge Institute for Discovery (MIR) at a 300,000 sq. feet building. The WID was voted the 2012 Laboratory of the Year and offers a unique interdisciplinary and highly collaborative environment bringing together scientists spanning broad computational and biological disciplines: Epigenetics, Systems Biology, Optimization, Living Environment Laboratory and Bionates. The entire first floor of the building, called the "Town center" is open to public and has several amenities including the Henry DeLuca auditorium accommodating ~300 people, Steenbock's restaurant and Aldo's cafe.
The Roy group is a computational biology group interested in developing statistical machine learning approaches to dissect regulatory networks in development, disease and evolution. We are interested in developing network reconstruction, analysis and comparison methods to integrate high-throughput functional genomic datasets and build predictive models of system state in yeast and mammalian species.
REQUIREMENTS
We are hiring post-doctoral scientists interested to work in the exciting area of systems virology. The scientist will work in an interdisciplinary team of virologists and computational scientists to develop network-based predictive models of mammalian host response to highly pathogenic viruses by integrating diverse transcriptomics, proteomics and lipidomics datasets. A successful applicant would have extensive experience in the development and application of machine learning methods to functional genomic datasets.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply, please send (1) CV with publications, (2) cover letter describing current research experience in computational biology, (3) statement of research interests, and, (4) contact information of two references. Please send this information to sroy[at]biostat.wisc.edu.
