Opportunity: Scientist, NGS analysis & protein structural modeling @ Regeneron Pharmaceuticals -- Tarrytown, NY (US)
Submitted by Yushen Chang; posted on Thursday, December 24, 2015

    BACKGROUND

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron markets medicines for eye diseases, colorectal cancer, and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including hypercholesterolemia, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, allergic asthma, and atopic dermatitis.

We are seeking a creative, self-motivated scientist to join the Technology and Discovery Centers of Regeneron Pharmaceutical Inc. in Tarrytown, NY. The successful candidate will support on-going, and initiate new, research projects towards generating, identifying, characterizing, and modifying novel antigen receptor molecules based on analyses of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data. The ideal candidate should have a strong combined background in computer science, immunology and molecular biology, as well as experience in bioinformatic analyses of NGS data from different sequencing platforms.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and refine programs to analyze NGS data on antigen receptor repertoire sequencing.
    • Automate NGS analysis on antigen receptor repertoire sequencing.
    • Evaluate novel engineered mouse models based on NGS analysis.
    • Extend analysis pipelines for BAC and L TVEC sequencing applications.
    • Extend analysis pipelines for exome and whole genome sequencing applications of human and mouse samples.
    • Apply and develop computational methods to model and refine protein structures based on available experimental data.
    • Model protein interactions (e.g. antigen/receptor) using computational structural biology tools.
    • Set up and follow collaborations within and outside the company to acquire structural data for proteins of interest.

    REQUIREMENTS

This position requires a minimum of a Ph.D degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering or related fields, with 1-3 years research experience analysis of NGS data. The candidate needs to be familiar with most up-to-date sequencing platforms (e.g. Iliumina Mi-seq, Hi-seq, Pac Bio, Ion torrent, etc). Solid knowledge of scripting languages (Perl, Python, R or Ruby), SQL and Unix OS are strictly required. The candidate should also understand basic lab technologies in molecular biology, especially for NGS sample preparation. Experience in computational structural biology is strongly preferred. Candidate should have good oral and written communication skills and a clear sense of organization, purpose, and
    accountability.

    PREFERENCES

    (1) Extensive experience with WES or WGS data from QC data to build analysis pipeline, and analyzing NGS data on antigen receptor repertoire sequencing; (2) Model protein interactions (e.g. antigen/receptor) using computational structural biology tools.
