DESCRIPTION
Health Services Evaluation, a department in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, provides Health Care Services leadership with needed information to help improve the health of our members. The Health Data Analyst position is dedicated to the production, verification and interpretation of reports using cutting edge quantitative methodology to better understand the quality of care being delivered and how that care is influenced by patient preference and system supply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with directors and managers in Health Services Evaluation, the Health Data Analyst addresses all aspects of the production of reports that detail the health of members at the product and business account level. The position coordinates information from across the organization, assures its timely delivery, performs quality assurance data review, helps senior management interpret data and contributes to continuous process and product improvement.
In addition, the position responds on an ad hoc basis to follow-up data requests based on customer needs. The Health Data Analyst works with Health Care Services staff to incorporate findings into a variety of medical management programs, including the development of program assessment metrics, quality-based incentives and public reporting of provider data.
REQUIREMENTS
The candidate should possess a full range of data management, analysis and informatics skills, including but not limited to:
1) Understanding data specification and documentation and how to work with information technology staff to execute specifications.
2) Strong communication skills, specifically the ability to clearly explain technical information.
3) Knowledge of and experience in using advanced statistical methods, especially to interpret complex data.
4) Experience programming with SAS and SQL.
5) Extensive experience with the Microsoft office suite, particularly Excel and Access.
6) Managing competing deadlines, including strong project management skills.
7) Production schedule experience, including coordinating data resources from across a corporate setting ? dealing with staff from all levels of the organization.
8) Prior managed care experience, clinical knowledge or health care data reporting experience.
REQUIREMENTS
A Master's degree in public health, social sciences, nursing, biostatistics or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area with a minimum of two years health care data analysis or related experience is required.
